The academic year tag and what it controls

Quick answer: Every currently enrolled family is tagged with the academic year (for example, enrolled 26/27). This tag is how the rest of Growth Suite knows which families are active.

Why it matters

Growth Suite needs a way to know which families are currently enrolled versus past families. The academic year tag does that. Smart lists, dashboards, and automated communications all filter on this tag so they only act on currently-enrolled families.

When the tag changes

At the start of each new academic year, your team applies the new year's tag to returning families. Most schools keep the previous year's tag too, as a history marker — a family tagged enrolled 23/24, enrolled 24/25, and enrolled 25/26 has three consecutive years of enrollment visible at a glance.

How to find currently enrolled families

Build a smart list with one Advanced Filter: tag Is the current academic year tag. This is the simplest way to see exactly who is active right now.
