How to apply a tag to one family

Quick answer: Open the family's record and use the tags section in the Contact Card at the top of the page.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Contacts and find the family.
  2. In the Contact Card at the top of the family record, find the Tags section.
  3. Start typing a tag name. Existing tags appear as suggestions.
  4. Select an existing tag, or press Enter on a new name to create a new tag.

What to tag

Common tags include academic year (enrolled 26/27), enrollment status (withdrawn, waitlisted), program (after-school program, summer camp), and ad-hoc groupings for events (fall fundraiser donor).

Tips

  • Be consistent with tag names. "kindergarten" and "Kindergarten" are two different tags to the system. Pick a convention and stick to it.
  • Don't over-tag. If you find yourself creating a tag for every small grouping, a smart list is usually a better tool.
  • For tagging multiple families at once, use the bulk action — see the related article.
