How to remove a tag from multiple families at once

Quick answer: Select the families, click the Remove Tag bulk action, name the action, choose which tag(s) to remove, and apply.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Contacts or a smart list of the families.
  2. Select the families.
  3. Click the Remove Tag bulk action.
  4. Name the action (visible in your Bulk Actions history).
  5. Choose what to remove:
    • Specific tags — pick which ones to strip off the selected families
    • All tags — clears every tag from the selected families
  6. Click Remove Tags.
  7. Track progress in Bulk Actions.

When to use this

  • Cleaning up old academic year tags after they're no longer relevant
  • Removing a campaign tag after a fundraiser or event is over
  • Fixing a bulk action that applied the wrong tag

Tips

  • Be careful with "Remove All Tags." This includes academic year tags, status tags, and any other categorization. Only use it if you really mean to wipe everything off the selected families.
  • If you remove tags you didn't mean to, you can restore them. See the related article.
