How to add a tag to multiple families at once

Quick answer: Select the families from Contacts or a smart list, click the Add Tag bulk action, name the action, choose the tag, and apply.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Contacts or open a smart list of the families you want to tag.
  2. Select the families. Check individual rows, or use Select All to include everyone in the current view.
  3. Click the Add Tag bulk action.
  4. Give the action a name (this shows up in your Bulk Actions history). Use something descriptive like "Apply enrolled 26/27 to returning families."
  5. Select which tags to add. You can apply multiple tags in one action.
  6. Click Add Tags.
  7. The action runs in the background. Click the success percentage to track progress.

Where to watch progress

All bulk tag actions live under Contacts → Bulk Actions. You can see what ran, when, and how many families were affected.

Tips

  • For end-of-year re-enrollment, this is the fastest way to apply the new academic year tag to hundreds of returning families.
  • If you tag the wrong families by accident, you can restore — see the related article on restoring tags.
  • Naming your bulk actions helps when you need to find one in history weeks later.
